HOOOOOOOOOOOLA!!!
A LA FAMILIA MEJOR EN TODO EL MUNDO!!!!!!
So, for this week...
Elder Burbank is doing very well. I continue to learn much from him. From what I've seen, his confidence in his ability to speak and do the work of the Lord is growing every day. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow, and see his progress as he helps me to do better as well.
I think, in the beginning, my (incorrect) thought was that if I have been called as a trainer, my personal progress stops while I serve my companion more - to help him to learn and grow, and to be there more to guide, direct, and observe. Now I know that that isn't true. With each calling, we have things to learn. Maybe it is to be more selfless; maybe it is to trust more in the Lord; or maybe it is to learn that we always have things to learn. Whatever the case, I'm grateful that the Lord is so patient with me as He teaches me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve with Elder Burbank. We're excited to continue to see the blessings from heaven be poured down in our area!
As for what the area is like, I've started a letter that I'm really hoping to finish this Thursday about how it is, and what things are like. This is one of the first areas (Okay, so the second area - second of 3) that I've really felt...I don't know, that we're an integral part of the ward, and that we really need to help it to function. It's not that the ward won't function without us, but we're an important part of keeping it rolling. Really, everyone is. There isn't a calling that is less important than another - and if everyone magnifies their callings, just think of how much each ward or branch would grow, and how quickly! Not only is each person helping to build up the Kingdom of God, but as we do so - as we perform the duties that God has asked us to do - He continues to bless and strengthen us, so that we can continue to do His great work.
I was thinking the other day about how much I've learned since I've been out here. There's a lot! Now, I know that there is a lot that each one of us has to do to help the Lord in missionary work - missionary work to the members and also to those who aren't yet members. We have a big responsibility! But with that - Romans 8:31.
As for here: We've been really looking for those who are prepared to receive the Gospel, and we have found some people. One of the trickiest things is to catch them at home. There are a lot of people who are here to work, so a lot of them work weird schedules (or don't even have one, which is just weird to me, living by a schedule every hour of the day), and it's difficult to set up solid appointments with them. But we know those people who are prepared are out there! That family we found last week, the family of 4 - we have an appointment with them this evening at 7:00. It should be a good meeting! The husband has read a little bit, and the wife has read more (from what we've heard from the rest of the family). We're exited to see them again! We're also going to go and invite people 'to do hard things.' We're going to be relying A LOT on the Spirit (like we always should) to touch their hearts and help them to come unto Christ.
Well, I've got to go. Less than 2 minutes left! But I just want y'all to know that I love you, and that I'm very grateful to see that Brent will be staying here in San Diego!!
Les amo - a infinidad, y mas alla!!
Con mucho amor,
Elder Devin Collins
